Mailjet pricing and review

Mailjet is an email marketing platform and email API owned by Sinch. It bills by emails sent each month and puts newsletters, automations and app email in one account.

Mailjet at a glance

Reachkit makes a cold email tool, which is a different job from Mailjet’s email to people who signed up. Every Mailjet price here was checked on October 31, 2026 against Mailjet’s pricing page and help center.

Mailjet pricing

Mailjet pricing starts at $9 a month for 8,000 emails on Starter, and Essential and Premium start at $19 and $29 for 15,000 emails. These are USD list prices on monthly billing from mailjet.com/pricing and Mailjet’s September 2026 price update, as of October 31, 2026.

PlanEmails a monthPrice a monthContacts
Free6,000 (200 a day)$01,000
Starter8,000$92,000
Essential15,000 / 50,000$19 / $40Unlimited
Premium15,000 / 50,000 / 100,000$29 / $59 / $112Unlimited
Premium250,000 / 500,000$265 / $499Unlimited

Free and Starter keep the Mailjet logo on your emails. Essential removes it and adds segmentation and AI writing help. Premium adds automations, landing pages, team management, up to 20 subaccounts and, from 100,000 emails, one dedicated IP on request. Above 500,000 a month, Custom is quoted.

Prices went up on September 9, 2026 for Essential and Premium, which Mailjet calls its first price change in two years. Starter kept its $9 price, and at least one ranking review still quotes the old $17 for Essential.

Extra emails are always billed. Mailjet’s subscription help says “Extra usage cannot be deactivated.” Each 1,000 past the plan costs $2.58 on Starter and the 15,000 plans, falling to $1.20 on Premium 500K, billed at renewal (monthly on yearly plans). Unused emails don’t roll over. Yearly billing saves 10% but is paid upfront and non-refundable.

A typical cost (my math): a newsletter to 3,000 subscribers, sent four times a month, is 12,000 emails, but Starter holds only 2,000 contacts. That means Essential 15K at $19, or $17.10 a month billed yearly. A 20,000-email month on that plan comes to $31.90 with overage.

What Mailjet does

Mailjet sends email to contacts who opted in, from two sides of one account. The marketing side has a drag-and-drop editor with real-time collaboration, segmentation and forms. The developer side offers a Send API, SMTP relay and webhooks on every plan, Free included, plus a Parse API for incoming mail from Premium 50K.

Mail goes out over Mailjet’s shared IP addresses unless a Premium 100K or larger account asks for a dedicated one. Its compliance team reviews accounts and can block them. Mailjet doesn’t host or warm mailboxes, and replies go to your reply-to address.

Mailjet’s AI tools write copy and templates and build segments from a plain-language description. Its official MCP server, released in September 2025, lets Claude Desktop read your Mailjet account through a small service on your computer; Mailjet says it is read only.

Mailjet was founded in France in 2010. Mailgun bought it in 2019, and in 2021 Sinch, a Swedish company, acquired both as part of Pathwire for about $1.9 billion. Mailjet claims 100,000+ customers.

Mailjet strengths and drawbacks

Strengths

  • Billed by volume, not list size. Essential lists unlimited contacts from $19, so a large list stays cheap (pricing).
  • Newsletters and app email together. The API, SMTP relay and webhooks come with every plan, Free included.
  • Made for editing as a team. Real-time collaboration was relaunched in August 2024, and Premium adds team management and up to 20 subaccounts (release notes).
  • EU hosting. Mailjet says it uses EU data centers and that its infrastructure is ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certified (mailjet.com).

Drawbacks

  • No spending cap. Sending past the plan always goes through and is billed afterwards.
  • Automations need Premium. Essential has no automations or landing pages, a gap EmailVendorSelection’s review also notes.
  • Strict account reviews. The sending policy keeps spam complaints at 0.08% or less and bounces at 5% or less, and blocked accounts dominate the low-star reviews on Trustpilot.
  • No refunds on prepaid plans outside double payments and outages (refund policy). The plan table lists phone and chat support “starting 50k”.

What Mailjet users say

Mailjet rates 4.0 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 4,017 reviews as of October 31, 2026, with 63% five-star and 20% one-star; Mailjet invites customers to review there. Search listings show 3.9 on G2 from about 176 reviews and 4.2 on Capterra from 456.

Trustpilot’s review summary says reviewers find the staff helpful and professional, quick to respond and effective on complex technical issues. One October 2026 reviewer wrote: “Awesome support and much better UX than Sendgrid, that we migrated from.”

The recurring complaint is a blocked or suspended account, in about two-thirds of the 20 reviews on the first page of Trustpilot’s one- and two-star filter: “Before I could even send my first email, my account was suspended” (September 2026). Fifteen of the 20 also mention support, often how long it took to help, though an October five-star review thanks support for reactivating a blocked account.

Who Mailjet is for

Mailjet fits small businesses, online shops and product teams that mail an opt-in list and want app email from the same vendor, especially big lists mailed a few times a month.

Look elsewhere if you want automations under $29 a month or a hard spending cap, or plan to write to people who never signed up, since Mailjet bans bought and scraped lists, B2B ones included. I’d run that outreach from its own domains and inboxes, away from the account your receipts depend on (how that setup works).

Alternatives to Mailjet

  • Reachkit (our product): for writing to prospects who never joined your list, which Mailjet’s policy forbids. Connect your own Google or Microsoft inboxes with no per-inbox fee, or let Reachkit register separate domains ($15 a year) and create inboxes ($5 a month each) that warm up automatically. The $39 Growth plan adds 1,000 verified-lead credits a month and one Unibox for replies, all apart from your Mailjet account.

Mailjet: common questions

How much does Mailjet cost?

Mailjet costs $9 a month on Starter for 8,000 emails, $19 or $40 on Essential, and $29 to $499 on Premium for 15,000 to 500,000 emails. Custom plans are quoted. Yearly billing saves 10%, and extra emails cost $1.20 to $2.58 per 1,000. Prices checked October 2026.

Does Mailjet have a free plan?

Yes. Mailjet's Free plan sends 6,000 emails a month, at most 200 a day, to up to 1,000 contacts, with no credit card. Emails carry the Mailjet logo, and the API and SMTP relay are included. Mailjet doesn't advertise a trial of its paid plans, so the Free plan is the way to try it.

Is Mailjet legit?

Yes. Mailjet was founded in France in 2010, has been owned by Sinch since 2021 and claims more than 100,000 customers. It rates 4.0 on Trustpilot from 4,017 reviews as of October 2026. Reviewers often praise its support, and the most common complaint is an account blocked by its compliance review, sometimes before the first send.

Who owns Mailjet?

Sinch, the Swedish communications company. Mailgun bought Mailjet in 2019, both became brands of Pathwire, and Sinch acquired Pathwire in 2021 for about 1.9 billion dollars. That's why the pricing page reads Sinch Mailjet.

Which is better, Mailjet or Mailchimp?

It depends on your list. Mailjet bills by emails sent, with unlimited contacts from $19 a month on Essential, which favors large lists mailed now and then. Mailchimp bills by contacts stored, from $13 a month for 500, unsubscribed contacts included. Checked October 2026.

Can you use Mailjet for cold email?

No. Mailjet's sending policy requires provable opt-in consent and bans bought, rented and scraped lists, and its help center says B2B lists aren't allowed either. Cold outreach belongs on separate domains and mailboxes in a tool built for it, such as Reachkit, which is our product and can set those inboxes up for you.
