Cloudflare Registrar pricing and review

Cloudflare Registrar sells domains at what the registry and ICANN charge, with no markup, and runs every domain it registers on Cloudflare's own DNS.

Cloudflare Registrar at a glance

Reachkit makes a competing cold email tool that also registers domains. Cloudflare’s own pages were checked on October 15, 2026; per-extension prices come from third-party trackers.

Cloudflare Registrar pricing

Cloudflare Registrar pricing is the registry’s price plus the ICANN fee: “Cloudflare Registrar does not mark up domain prices at all,” says its product page. Cloudflare shows a price when you search for a domain but publishes no full price list, so the table uses cfdomainpricing.com, a third-party tracker, with these entries updated October 13, 2026.

ExtensionRegister (first year)Renew
.com$10.46$10.46
.net$11.86$11.86
.org$8.50$11.20
.io$32.00$50.00
.site$4.99$27.70

At cost doesn’t mean the same price every year. Registry promotions pass straight through, so .org and .site cost less in year one and renew higher. Cloudflare’s docs say a domain “will only renew at the list price set by the registry”, while its registration agreement bills renewals at “then current rates” that “may be higher or lower”. Cloudflare’s plans page lists the registrar as “Starting at $7.85”, while trackers show some extensions from $4.18 for the first year.

The .com price is going up. Verisign raises its .com wholesale price from $10.26 to $10.97 on November 1, 2026, per Domain Name Wire. With the $0.20 ICANN fee, a Cloudflare .com should land near $11.17, though Cloudflare hasn’t announced a figure.

Other costs: local taxes such as VAT may apply, restoring an expired domain usually adds an unpublished fee that varies by extension, and all fees are non-refundable.

What a typical setup costs: five .com sending domains come to $52.30 a year, about $56 after November 1. Cloudflare sells no mailboxes, so ten Google Workspace mailboxes on Business Starter add $70 a month on Google’s annual plan.

What Cloudflare Registrar does

Cloudflare Registrar is the domain service inside a Cloudflare account, managed in the same dashboard as its DNS. Cloudflare opened it to enterprise customers in 2016 and to all its customers from September 2018. Its docs put coverage at “over 400” top-level domains and its product page at “over 430”.

Every domain comes with free WHOIS redaction (your contact details stay out of public records), one-click DNSSEC, a transfer lock, and Cloudflare’s DNS, CDN and SSL. Terms run up to 10 years for most extensions, and auto-renew is on by default.

The rule that matters most is DNS. Domains registered here must use Cloudflare’s nameservers, the setting that decides who runs a domain’s DNS, and can’t switch to another provider’s without transferring out. You can still add MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, which is how Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 mailboxes get set up.

Since April 2026, a Registrar API beta lets AI agents register domains, also through Cloudflare’s MCP server (a standard way for AI assistants like Claude to use other apps). Renewals aren’t in the API yet, and its auto-renew setting defaults to off. There are no mailboxes to send from: Email Routing forwards incoming mail elsewhere.

Cloudflare Registrar strengths and drawbacks

Strengths

  • No markup. Cloudflare says its prices are “always at or below” what registries and ICANN charge, and a NamePros user wrote in 2022 that “Pricing is as advertised” (thread).
  • Free extras. WHOIS redaction, DNSSEC, domain lock, DNS and SSL come with every domain. Forbes Advisor called Cloudflare “the best domain registrar for security” in September 2026.
  • Open to AI agents. An assistant can register a domain through the API or MCP, and the API docs tell agents to show the user the price first.

Drawbacks

  • Locked to Cloudflare DNS. Third-party nameservers aren’t allowed (docs), and new domains can’t transfer out for 60 days (docs).
  • Thin support on self-serve plans. Free-plan users can open cases only for billing, account and registrar issues; chat needs Business or Enterprise, and phone needs Enterprise (support docs).
  • Account trouble can reach your domains. Individual reports on Hacker News in 2022 and 2024 describe account suspensions cutting off domains registered here, in 2024 including the transfer-out. These are separate cases, not a stated policy.

What Cloudflare Registrar users say

No major review site rates Cloudflare Registrar alone; their ratings cover Cloudflare more broadly. As of October 2026, search results show 4.7 out of 5 on Capterra from 528 reviews and 4.5 on G2 from 801 for its security and performance product. Trustpilot shows 1.5 from 1,330 reviews, many of them complaints about Cloudflare’s CAPTCHA checks on other websites.

On the registrar itself, praise goes to the pricing and complaints go to the DNS rule. A one-star Trustpilot review from September 2026 says Cloudflare will “hold your purchased domain hostage”, and a user in the same 2022 NamePros thread said it isn’t “friendly for domainers”.

Who Cloudflare Registrar is for

Cloudflare Registrar fits people who already run DNS on Cloudflare, developers who want renewals at registry cost, and teams that want an AI agent to buy domains.

Look elsewhere if a website host or inbox service needs its own nameservers, if you want phone support without an Enterprise plan, or if you want mailboxes from the same company. For cold email, I’d first check that your mailbox provider works through DNS records. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 do.

Alternatives to Cloudflare Registrar

  • Porkbun: another at-cost registrar, with a .com at $11.08 to register and renew, an API and its own mailboxes. See the Porkbun profile.
  • GoDaddy: sells Microsoft 365 email next to domains, with a .com at $0.01 the first year on a 3-year buy. See the GoDaddy profile.
  • Google Workspace or Microsoft 365: mailboxes for your Cloudflare domains, each from $7 per user a month on a yearly plan. See the Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 profiles.
  • Zapmail: builds Google or Microsoft mailboxes for cold email, from $39 a month for 10 in the first year, and says Cloudflare-connected domains need no nameserver change. See Reachkit vs Zapmail.
  • Reachkit (our product): a cold email platform from $39 a month. Mailboxes on your Cloudflare domains connect with no per-inbox fee. For new sending domains, Reachkit registers them at $15 a year each (more than a Cloudflare .com), sets SPF, DKIM and DMARC, creates Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 inboxes at $5 a month and starts warmup.

Cloudflare Registrar: common questions

How much does Cloudflare Registrar cost?

A .com costs $10.46 a year to register and renew at Cloudflare as of October 2026, per third-party price trackers. Other extensions follow their registry's price. Verisign's November 1, 2026 increase should take the .com to about $11.17.

Is Cloudflare Registrar free?

No. Domains cost what the registry charges, but there is no plan fee: the registrar works on Cloudflare's Free plan, and WHOIS redaction, DNSSEC, DNS and SSL come with every domain. Taxes may apply depending on your billing address.

Is Cloudflare Registrar legit?

Yes. It is run by Cloudflare, Inc., a San Francisco company listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2019, and has been open to all Cloudflare customers since 2018. The common complaints are the required Cloudflare nameservers and limited support on the Free plan.

Is Cloudflare the cheapest registrar?

Not always. Cloudflare adds no markup, so a .com is $10.46 to register and renew, against $11.08 at Porkbun as of October 2026. Other registrars can be cheaper in year one with promotions, such as GoDaddy's $0.01 first-year .com on a 3-year buy, which renews at $22.99 plus the ICANN fee per GoDaddy's May 2026 price list.

Can I use Cloudflare Registrar domains for cold email?

Yes, if your mailboxes are set up through DNS records, as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are: you add their MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records in Cloudflare. Services that require their own nameservers won't work without a transfer. You also need a mailbox provider and a sending tool, such as Reachkit (our product).

Sending cold email from your Cloudflare domains?

Connect the mailboxes on them to Reachkit with no per-inbox fee, or let Reachkit register new domains, create the inboxes and start warmup. 30-day free trial, no card.
