Porkbun pricing
Porkbun pricing is built on selling domains at cost: Porkbun says most carry no markup, and if there is one it’s “typically $1 or less”. It even itemizes a .com: $10.26 wholesale, a $0.20 ICANN fee and $0.62 in card fees, for $11.08. Prices below are from Porkbun’s domain price list, one year, as of October 2026.
| Extension | Register | Renew | Transfer |
|---|---|---|---|
| .com | $11.08 | $11.08 | $11.08 |
| .net | $12.52 | $12.52 | $12.52 |
| .io | $28.12 first year, then $51.80 | $51.80 | $51.80 |
| .xyz | $2.04 first year, then $14.21 | $14.21 | $14.21 |
| .ai | $82.70 | $82.70 | $165.09 |
The .com price is going up. Porkbun’s help center says it rises to about $11.81 on November 1, 2026, after Verisign’s wholesale increase, and expects yearly rises through 2030. Its price increase list also puts .net at $13.65 from March 1, 2027.
Other costs: paying by US bank transfer on an “ACH Only” account lowers a .com to $10.54. Restoring an expired domain in its redemption period costs $200 on top of the renewal. Porkbun Email is $36 a year per mailbox (shown as $3 a month). Hosting starts at $2.50 a month billed yearly for static sites.
What a typical setup costs: five .com sending domains come to $55.40 a year, about $59 at the new price, and renewals cost the same as registrations.
What Porkbun does
Porkbun is an ICANN-accredited registrar, launched in 2015 and based in Oregon, which reported four million domains under management in August 2026. Every domain comes with free WHOIS privacy, a Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate, URL forwarding and up to 20 email forwards, and accounts get two-factor login.
Around the domain sit add-ons: Porkbun Email (one mailbox with webmail, IMAP and POP3), resold Proton Mail from $5.99 a month, and hosting for static sites, WordPress, PHP, cPanel and a site builder.
The API covers buying, renewing and transferring domains plus full DNS edits, with a sandbox key and per-domain permissions. Porkbun also runs an official MCP server, a standard way for AI assistants like Claude to use other apps, so an assistant can manage domains within a spend limit you set.
Porkbun has no warmup, sequences or cold email tools, and doesn’t resell Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
Porkbun strengths and drawbacks
Strengths
- Renewals match the sticker on the big extensions. A .com or .net renews at the same price it registers at, with no first-year discount, and Porkbun publishes the cost breakdown on its why Porkbun page.
- Free extras. Privacy, SSL and forwarding come with every domain at no charge, and 2FA with every account.
- Developer tooling. API keys can be scoped to single domains, requests can run as dry runs, and DNS changes get dated restore points.
- People answer seven days a week. Email support runs around the clock, and phone and chat run 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific, 365 days a year.
Drawbacks
- Sale prices on some extensions. .xyz, .io, .info and others show a “1st Yr Sale” price that renews at the regular rate, and .shop renews above its regular registration price.
- No refunds. The registration agreement calls all fees non-refundable and charges renewals at “then-current rates”, so the agreement itself doesn’t lock in at-cost pricing.
- No live help overnight. Phone and chat are daytime only, Pacific time, so overnight it’s email only.
- ID checks for some new accounts. Porkbun asks a subset of new customers for photo ID through Veriff, based on region and other signals, as an anti-abuse step.
What Porkbun users say
Porkbun holds 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 28,186 reviews as of October 2026, with 91% of them five stars. Porkbun has claimed the profile and invites customers to review. Trustpilot’s own summary says customers praise the “affordable pricing and transparent costs”.
The recurring complaints are about access, not price. Trustpilot’s summary says some reviewers were unhappy with login and renewal steps. The 2026 ID checks drew criticism in a Hacker News thread, where other commenters said the checks target fraud, not age. On email, a 2023 review claimed a 200-a-day sending cap that Porkbun doesn’t publish, so treat that number as unconfirmed.
Who Porkbun is for
Porkbun fits founders and developers who want to buy domains close to cost, with renewals priced like registrations.
Look elsewhere if you want one company for domain, website builder and Microsoft 365 email, or if you need a phone line at 2 AM. My practitioner note: for cold email, a registrar is only the first step. Sending domains are cheap here, but the mailboxes should come from Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or an inbox provider, because Porkbun’s own mailbox is built for everyday mail.
Alternatives to Porkbun
- GoDaddy: a larger registrar that sells Microsoft 365 email and says it offers support 24/7. A .com is $0.01 for year one on a 3-year buy, then $22.99 plus a $0.20 ICANN fee per GoDaddy’s May 2026 price list. See the GoDaddy profile.
- Google Workspace: the mailboxes to put on domains you bought elsewhere, from $7 per user a month on an annual plan. See the Google Workspace profile.
- Microsoft 365: Outlook mailboxes from $7 per user a month on a yearly commitment. See the Microsoft 365 profile.
- Zapmail: builds Google or Microsoft mailboxes and their DNS for cold email, from $39 a month for 10 mailboxes in the first year. See Reachkit vs Zapmail.
- Reachkit (our product): a cold email platform from $39 a month that registers new sending domains at $15 a year, sets up Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 inboxes at $5 a month each and starts their warmup. Mailboxes on domains you own connect free.

Is Porkbun a US company?
Yes. Porkbun LLC lists a mailing address in Tigard, Oregon, its staff bios mention Portland, and its phone support team is based in the US. The site footer describes Porkbun as a Top Level Design company.
Which is better, Porkbun or GoDaddy?
For keeping a .com long term, Porkbun costs less: $11.08 a year to register and renew, against GoDaddy's $0.01 first year on a 3-year buy and a $22.99 renewal plus ICANN fee, per its May 2026 price list. GoDaddy says it offers support 24/7 and resells Microsoft 365 email, which Porkbun doesn't. Prices checked October 2026.
Can I use Porkbun email for cold email?
It isn't built for it. Porkbun Email is a single mailbox with webmail, IMAP and POP3, no warmup or sequences, and no published sending limit. Many cold email senders buy domains at a registrar like Porkbun and put Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 mailboxes on them, connected to a sending tool.
