Klaviyo pricing and review
Klaviyo is an email and SMS marketing platform for online stores, built on your store's customer and order data and priced by how many active profiles you can email.
Klaviyo at a glance
Reachkit makes a cold email tool, a different job from Klaviyo’s store marketing. Prices were checked in October 2026 on Klaviyo’s own pages; outside calculator readings are marked.

Klaviyo pricing
Klaviyo pricing starts free, and the paid Email plan costs $20 a month for up to 500 active profiles. You pay for profiles you can email, not for sends: Klaviyo counts “any profile, regardless of consent status, that can be emailed through Klaviyo” (billing help), so suppressed profiles drop out.
The pricing page calculator didn’t render for us. The $20 entry is from Klaviyo’s Shopify App Store listing; the other rows are from October 2026 calculator readings by Kanal and Yocto, which agree where both list a tier.
| Active profiles | Email plan, monthly | Email sends included |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 250 | Free | 500 |
| 500 | $20 | 5,000 |
| 1,000 | $30 | 10,000 |
| 5,000 | $100 | 50,000 |
| 10,000 | $150 | 100,000 |
| 15,000 | $350 | 150,000 |
| 50,000 | $720 | 500,000 |
| Over 150,000 | Custom | Custom |
Billing rules. Plans are billed monthly, in advance. Pass your profile tier and Klaviyo moves you up at the end of the cycle and charges the difference. At the send limit you can buy the next tier’s capacity once (“flex”), upgrade or stop. Mid-cycle downgrades aren’t refunded.
Texting (SMS, MMS, WhatsApp, RCS) is a separate prepaid plan, on per-message dollar rates instead of credits since July 13, 2026 (FAQ). Unused dollars don’t roll over. The Shopify listing still describes the old credit plans.
Add-ons, each billed on its own: Composer from $20 for 2,000 credits, Helpdesk from $10 for 50 tickets, Customer Agent from $50 for 75 conversations, Marketing Analytics from $100 for up to 13,500 profiles. The calculator also has a Marketing tab. Kanal reads it as a bundle from about $90 at 500 profiles adding social marketing, Customer Hub and predictive analytics, while a Klaviyo product update shows the Marketing plan at C$29.66 for 500 profiles; check it in the calculator.
What a typical setup costs: a store with 5,000 profiles texting about 5,000 US customers a month pays roughly $100 for email plus $70 for texting (Kanal’s toll-free example), about $170 a month.
What Klaviyo does
Klaviyo connects to your store (Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento, Wix and others) and turns customers, orders, products and browsing into profiles.
Sign-up forms grow the list, segments slice it by what people bought or browsed, and flows send automatically when something happens, such as an abandoned cart. Campaigns go out by email, SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, push and in-app messages, sent by Klaviyo itself rather than a mailbox like Gmail.
Composer, live since October 13, 2026, is the AI side: describe an outcome and it “builds the audience, drafts the copy for each channel, coordinates the timing, and stages the send”, and “Nothing goes live without you” (launch post). Customer Agent answers shopper questions; Klaviyo says it resolves 65% on its own.
For builders there are REST APIs and an MCP server, which lets Claude or Cursor read and work on your Klaviyo segments, campaigns and flows.
Klaviyo strengths and drawbacks
Strengths
- Store data runs everything. Segments and flows use real order and browsing history, and G2 and Capterra reviewers single out segmentation, automation and the Shopify integration.
- One profile across channels. Email, texting, push, reviews, a helpdesk and AI support share the same customer records.
- A free plan that lasts. 250 profiles and 500 sends a month, with no time limit.
- Fast releases. Flows 2.0, Composer and 260+ new MCP tools all shipped between August and October 2026, per What’s new.
Drawbacks
- Profiles, not engagement, set the bill. Since February 18, 2025, card-paying customers must be on a plan matching their active profile count (billing change FAQ), so unengaged contacts cost money until suppressed.
- Separate meters add up. Texting, Helpdesk, Customer Agent, analytics and Reviews each carry their own subscription.
- Thin support on the free plan. Email support ends after 60 days, and support quality is a recurring complaint on Trustpilot and G2, as is the learning curve.
What Klaviyo users say
As of October 2026 Klaviyo holds 4.6 out of 5 on G2 from about 1,360 reviews, 4.6 on Capterra from about 530 and 4.7 from 3,396 on its Shopify App Store listing. Trustpilot shows 1.6 from 370, a smaller unsolicited sample; Trustpilot notes Klaviyo hasn’t replied to negative reviews.
Praise centers on automation, segmentation and Shopify. The top complaint is price under active-profile billing: Capterra reviewers call the profile pricing steep and hard to follow, and a Shopify merchant warned in October 2026 that “Billing is a trap”, saying profiles that support blamed on bots pushed a charge past $900 (Klaviyo replied the next day). Support and the learning curve follow, summed up in one Reddit thread title: “Klaviyo made email harder than it needed to be”.
Who Klaviyo is for
Klaviyo fits online stores, Shopify ones above all, selling to opted-in consumers with email, texting and automations driven by what shoppers do.
Look elsewhere for B2B prospecting. Klaviyo’s acceptable use policy requires consent and bans bought or scraped contacts.
If I were budgeting for Klaviyo, I’d set up suppression of unengaged profiles before the list nears 10,000, because the next 5,000 profiles more than double the Email plan price.
Alternatives to Klaviyo
- SendGrid Marketing Campaigns: an opt-in list editor priced by contacts, from $15 a month for 5,000 contacts and 15,000 sends; automation needs Advanced, from $60.
- GoHighLevel: a CRM and marketing suite for agencies serving local businesses, from $97 a month plus $0.675 per 1,000 emails.
- Mailchimp and Omnisend: also common in Klaviyo pricing searches; not covered here yet.
- Reachkit (our product): for the B2B outreach Klaviyo’s policy rules out, such as pitching wholesale buyers. It finds verified leads in a 500M+ profile database and can set up and warm new lookalike domains and inboxes for you ($15 a domain a year, $5 an inbox a month), keeping your main domain out of it. Plans from $39 a month per workspace. It doesn’t do store email or texting.
Staying on Klaviyo? Kickbox and Emailable both integrate with it and clean lists before bounces count against your send limit.
Klaviyo: common questions
How much does Klaviyo cost?
Klaviyo is free for up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month. The Email plan starts at $20 a month for 500 profiles, and October 2026 readings of its calculator show about $100 at 5,000, $150 at 10,000 and $720 at 50,000. Texting and add-ons are billed separately.
Does Klaviyo have a free plan?
Yes. Klaviyo's free plan covers up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends, $5 of text messages and $5 of Composer AI usage a month, with no end date. Emails and sign-up forms carry Klaviyo branding, and email support ends after 60 days.
Why is Klaviyo so expensive?
Klaviyo bills by active profiles, meaning every profile it can email, whether or not that person opens anything. Accounts move up a tier automatically, and October 2026 readings of its calculator show the Email plan more than doubling between 10,000 and 15,000 profiles. Suppressing unengaged profiles is the main way to lower the cost.
Is Klaviyo legit?
Yes. Klaviyo, Inc. is a Boston company founded in 2012 that has traded on the NYSE as KVYO since September 2023. It reported more than 205,000 customers in Q2 2026 and holds 4.6 out of 5 on G2 and Capterra and 4.7 on the Shopify App Store. A smaller Trustpilot sample scores it 1.6, mostly over billing and support.
Can you use Klaviyo for cold email?
No. Klaviyo's acceptable use policy, last updated April 9, 2026, says recipients must have consented to hear from you and bans purchased, rented, third-party, publicly available and scraped contacts. Breaking it can get an account suspended. Cold outreach needs a tool built for it, such as Instantly or Reachkit, which is our product.
