Vapi pricing and review

Vapi is a developer platform for building AI voice agents that answer and place phone calls, billed by the minute, with optional support packages.

Vapi at a glance

Reachkit makes a cold email tool, not a voice platform, and wrote this page. Every price here was checked on October 15, 2026 against Vapi’s own pricing page and docs.

Vapi pricing

Vapi pricing has two layers: per-minute usage, always billed, and an optional Success Package for support and higher limits. Both are from vapi.ai/pricing and the billing docs.

Usage. Vapi charges $0.05 a minute for hosting. Speech-to-text, the language model and the voice are billed on top at each provider’s listed price, which Vapi says carries no markup. Calls over Vapi’s own numbers carry no transport fee; carriers charge their own, for example $0.014 a minute for Twilio outbound. Credits are prepaid, new accounts get $5 free, and usage is non-refundable under the terms.

Core$29/mo10Email, 2 business day SLA
Pro10% of hosting, $999/mo minimum30Email and Slack, 1 business day SLA
PremierCustom, through salesCustomNamed team, 1 hour for P0 issues

Core adds Zero Data Retention. Extra call lines cost $10 a month each, extra organizations $20, and HIPAA $2,000 a month per organization on any package. The docs say Core and Pro are bought in the dashboard, while the pricing page buttons for both read “Contact Sales”.

What a typical setup costs: Vapi’s own estimate for 1,000 minutes with no package is $82 to $129 a month. At 10,000 minutes on Core, the calculator’s ranges add up to about $847 to $1,318, plus $140 to dial out over Twilio. Pro passes $999 only at about 200,000 minutes a month.

Several pages ranking for this query still describe the older Build and Scale plans, replaced by September 20, 2026 per a pricing tracker. Legacy accounts keep their terms.

What Vapi does

Vapi runs voice agents. You create an assistant, choose a transcriber (such as Deepgram), a language model (such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini) and a voice (such as ElevenLabs or Vapi’s own), write its prompt, give it tools and attach a phone number or a web widget. Squads hand a call between assistants, and you can run simulated calls before going live.

For outbound, Vapi added dashboard campaigns on August 31, 2026: upload a CSV of up to 10,000 contacts, schedule up to seven days ahead, and let voicemail detection run. Outbound needs a number imported from a carrier such as Twilio or Telnyx, because the free Vapi numbers are US-only and inbound-only. Vapi has no contact database, and getting consent to call is your job.

Developers get a REST API, SDKs, webhooks and an MCP server, a standard way for AI assistants like Claude to manage other apps. Integrations include HubSpot, Salesforce, GoHighLevel and Zapier.

Vapi strengths and drawbacks

Strengths

  • Every part is your choice. Swap the transcriber, model, voice or carrier, or bring your own keys and pay those providers directly.
  • Cheap to try. $0 to start, $5 in credits, a public cost calculator and a per-call cost breakdown.
  • Built for builders. API, SDKs, an MCP server, versioning with rollback and simulated test calls, with weekly changelog entries through 2026.
  • Compliance paperwork. SOC 2 Type II for all customers per Vapi’s docs, HIPAA with a BAA as an add-on, and SSO and an EU region on Premier.

Drawbacks

  • $0.05 isn’t the price of a minute. Vapi’s own calculator puts 1,000 minutes at $82 to $129, before carrier fees.
  • Low limits without a package. Usage-only accounts run 4 calls at once, and Vapi’s concurrency docs suggest dialing lists in chunks of 50 to 100 numbers.
  • Needs technical skill. G2’s review summary, drawn from very few reviews, says the many options take technical knowledge to navigate.
  • Credits freeze calls. At a $0 balance with auto-reload off, Vapi stops new calls until you top up (billing docs).

What Vapi users say

Vapi’s ratings are split, and all samples are small. Product Hunt shows 4.9 from 25 reviews, 18 of them from founders. One reviewer wrote that “the API is easy to integrate”. G2 has only a handful of reviews, spread over two profiles.

Trustpilot shows 2.4 from 15 reviews as of October 2026, two thirds one-star, on a profile Vapi hasn’t claimed. The recurring themes are lag (“Theres a 3-5 second pause after each turn”, March 2026), agents not following the prompt, and pricing one reviewer called misleading. The newest Trustpilot review is from April 2026, before the current pricing.

Who Vapi is for

Vapi fits technical teams building their own voice agent for support, lead qualification or booking, who want to pick each model and voice. Healthcare teams can add HIPAA for $2,000 a month.

Look elsewhere if nobody on the team writes code, or if you want calling inside the CRM your reps already use. From the outbound side, I’d point a voice agent at people who already replied and asked to talk, not at a cold list. The list still decides most of the result.

Alternatives to Vapi

  • Retell AI, Synthflow, Bland and ElevenLabs Agents: voice agent platforms that come up in Vapi alternatives searches. We haven’t checked their pricing yet.
  • Close: a sales CRM with built-in calling and Chloe, an AI calling agent, from $9 per user a month billed yearly ($19 monthly) plus about $0.02 a minute for calls. See the Close profile.
  • GoHighLevel: an all-in-one CRM whose Voice AI costs $0.045 a minute for the engine plus voice, model and phone charges. See the GoHighLevel profile.
  • Reply.io: sequences that mix email, LinkedIn, calls through a built-in dialer and SMS, with calls on the $99-per-user Multichannel plan. See the Reply.io profile.
  • Reachkit (our product): a cold email sender, not a voice tool. It finds verified leads, writes and sends the sequence, and labels replies such as Meeting Requested, so you know who asked to talk. Plans start at $39 a month per workspace.

Vapi: common questions

How much does Vapi cost?

Vapi charges $0.05 a minute for hosting, plus the speech-to-text, model and voice providers at their listed prices. Vapi's calculator puts 1,000 minutes at $82 to $129 a month before carrier fees. Success Packages add $29 a month (Core), 10% of hosting with a $999 minimum (Pro) or custom pricing (Premier).

Is Vapi free?

No. Vapi has no free plan, but it costs $0 to start and new accounts get $5 of free credits. After that, usage is prepaid by the minute. The free US phone number Vapi includes takes inbound calls only.

Why is Vapi so expensive?

The $0.05 a minute on the pricing page is only Vapi's hosting fee. The transcriber, the language model and the voice are billed on top, and phone carriers charge separately. Vapi's own calculator shows about $0.08 to $0.13 a minute in total, and long calls cost more because the history is resent to the model each turn.

Is Vapi legit?

Yes. Vapi is run by Vapi Inc., is backed by Y Combinator and raised a $20M Series A led by Bessemer Venture Partners in December 2024. Reviews are mixed and small in number: 4.9 from 25 on Product Hunt, 2.4 from 15 on Trustpilot, as of October 2026.

What is Vapi used for?

Vapi is used to build AI voice agents that answer or place phone and web calls. Vapi's own examples are customer support, lead qualification and appointment scheduling. Developers pick the providers, write the prompt and connect the agent to a calendar or CRM.

Can Vapi make outbound calls?

Yes. Since August 2026 Vapi runs outbound campaigns from its dashboard, with up to 10,000 contacts per campaign uploaded by CSV and scheduling up to seven days ahead. You need a number imported from a carrier, and the number of calls running at once depends on your package: 4 without one, 10 on Core and 30 on Pro.

Need people who asked to talk first?

Reachkit's Lead Finder and AI-written sequences fill the email side of outbound, and Scale plans add webhooks for reply events. Try the 30-day trial, no card needed.
