SMTP2GO pricing and review

SMTP2GO is an SMTP relay and email API from New Zealand that delivers mail from apps, Outlook, printers and opted-in newsletters, priced by monthly volume.

SMTP2GO at a glance

Reachkit makes a competing email tool, built for cold outreach. Every price here was checked in October 2026 against SMTP2GO’s own pricing page, help center and terms.

SMTP2GO pricing

SMTP2GO pricing starts at $15 a month for 10,000 emails on Starter, and yearly billing costs ten times the monthly price (“2 months free”). Figures are from smtp2go.com/pricing, in USD, as of October 2026.

PlanMonthly / yearlyEmails a monthExtra per 1,000
Free$01,000 (max 200 a day)Not allowed
Starter$15 / $15010,000$1.20
Professional$75 / $750100,000$0.85
PremierCustomOver 3,000,000Available

Volumes in between are priced on a slider. SMTP2GO’s help center lists Starter packages of “10K or 50K” and Professional from “100K to 3M”, while the slider’s third stop reads 40K. Third-party reviews disagree on whether the slider changes the price, so set it to your volume before you budget.

What the plans change: Starter adds 30 days of reports (Free keeps 5), phone and chat support, subaccounts and SMS. Professional adds a dedicated IP and email testing tools. Paid plans allow unlimited users and sender domains, and overage “up to 3x your subscription limit”.

Extras and billing: more dedicated IPs cost $19 a month each and email archiving $0.50 per GB a month. You can pay by card, PayPal or ACH (US), and a full refund is available within 30 days.

Why some sites say $10: the page’s raw HTML still holds a $10 Starter card, but the live page shows $15.

What a typical setup costs (my math): 10,000 emails a month is $15, or $12.50 a month billed yearly. At 30,000, Starter plus 20,000 extra emails is $39, unless the 50K package is cheaper. 100,000 is $75 with a dedicated IP. An MSP adding client domains or technicians pays nothing more; in a 2024 r/msp thread, one MSP said that split across clients “the cost is less than two dollars per”.

What SMTP2GO does

SMTP2GO takes outgoing mail from your app, mail client or office hardware and delivers it through its own servers. You connect over SMTP with a username and password (or by IP on paid plans), or call its v3 REST API, and SMTP2GO handles SPF and DKIM for your domains.

Network: shared IP pools by default and a dedicated IP from Professional, across data centers in the USA, Europe and Australia. SMTP2GO was founded in 2006, is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and says it serves over 40,000 businesses.

New accounts: every account is reviewed. The first quota is 1,000 emails, and mail above it waits in a queue until SMTP2GO has assessed the account (review process).

What it isn’t: a mailbox. SMTP2GO doesn’t host or warm inboxes, and replies go to the mailbox you already use.

AI: no AI writing tools. Developers get an official MCP server (a standard way for AI assistants like Claude to use other apps) that reads the API docs and, with a permitted API key, runs real API calls, sending included (MCP docs).

SMTP2GO strengths and drawbacks

Strengths

  • People to talk to on a $15 plan. Ticket, chat and phone support come with every paid plan. A five-star Trustpilot review from October 2026 says “Great prices, great site performance, and fast support when needed.”
  • Relaying that stays out of the way. A Capterra reviewer writes “my emails always get delivered immediately. Set it and forget it”.
  • Built for many clients. Unlimited users and sender domains plus subaccounts suit an MSP relaying for dozens of offices.
  • A dedicated IP at $75. Professional includes one; extra IPs cost $19 a month (billing FAQ).

Drawbacks

  • Opt-in mail only. SMTP2GO’s terms say “Lists must be 100% opt-in” and ban “purchased lists, email addresses scoured from the Internet, and marketing leads”, plus lists built via LinkedIn.
  • Suspensions in low-star reviews. The recurring theme in one- and two-star Trustpilot reviews is an unexpected suspension, sometimes with slow support. The terms allow suspension “pending review upon receipt of any complaint”.
  • A tight free plan. 200 emails a day, 25 an hour until you verify a sender domain, and 5 days of reports (free plan).
  • Cost at high volume. G2’s review summary notes pricing can run higher than competitors’ for high-volume sending.

What SMTP2GO users say

SMTP2GO holds 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 1,911 reviews as of October 2026, with 92% five-star and 2% one-star. The profile is claimed and on a paid Trustpilot subscription. It also shows 4.7 on G2 from 226 reviews and 4.9 on Capterra from 178.

Praise centers on reliable delivery, quick setup and support. The complaints are few but repeat: suspensions, and support that’s hard to reach once an account is blocked. One September 2026 reviewer wrote “Account Suspended Despite Double Opt-In”, then added that the refund was issued.

Who SMTP2GO is for

SMTP2GO fits IT teams and MSPs that need printers, scanners, business apps and Outlook to send mail reliably, and small software teams that want app email with a person on the phone.

Look elsewhere if you want to email prospects who never signed up: the terms rule out those lists, and a suspended account stops every message routed through it. I keep cold email on separate lookalike domains with real Google or Microsoft mailboxes, which is why Reachkit’s done-for-you setup always buys new domains (how that’s built).

Alternatives to SMTP2GO

  • Postmark: transactional email from $15 for 10,000 on Basic, with a 100-a-month free plan and monthly billing only. See the Postmark profile.
  • Mailgun: an email API at $15 for 10,000 on Basic, a free plan of 100 a day, and phone and chat from its $90 Scale plan. See the Mailgun profile.
  • SendGrid: Twilio’s email API, from $19.95 a month for 50,000 emails after a 60-day trial. See the SendGrid profile.
  • Amazon SES: pay per message inside AWS, $0.10 per 1,000 à la carte, though new accounts start on Essentials at $0.16. See the Amazon SES profile.
  • Reachkit (our product): for the outreach SMTP2GO’s terms forbid, while SMTP2GO keeps your app and device mail. From $39 a month, Reachkit registers lookalike domains ($15 a year), creates Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 inboxes on them ($5 a month each), runs AI-written warmup and collects replies in its Unibox.

SMTP2GO: common questions

Is SMTP2GO legit?

Yes. SMTP2GO has run since 2006 from Christchurch, New Zealand, and says it serves over 40,000 businesses. As of October 2026 it holds 4.8 on Trustpilot from 1,911 reviews, 4.7 on G2 and 4.9 on Capterra.

How much does SMTP2GO cost?

SMTP2GO Starter costs $15 a month for 10,000 emails and Professional $75 for 100,000, or $150 and $750 billed yearly. Extra emails cost $1.20 and $0.85 per 1,000. Premier, for over 3 million a month, is custom, and other volumes are priced on a slider. Prices checked October 2026.

Is SMTP2GO free forever?

Yes. The free plan never expires and needs no credit card. It sends 1,000 emails a month, at most 200 a day and 25 an hour until you verify a sender domain. Mail over the monthly cap is rejected rather than billed, and support is ticket-only after the first 14 days.

Are there any issues with SMTP2GO?

Most reviews are positive, but the recurring complaint is account suspensions, sometimes followed by slow support. SMTP2GO reviews every new account after its first 1,000 emails, and its terms let it suspend an account pending review when a complaint arrives.

Can you use SMTP2GO for cold email?

No. SMTP2GO's terms require 100% opt-in lists and ban purchased lists, scraped addresses and lists built from LinkedIn. Cold email usually runs from Google or Microsoft mailboxes on separate domains, in a tool built for it, such as Reachkit, which can set up those domains and inboxes for you.

SMTP2GO vs Mailgun: which is cheaper?

At 10,000 emails a month both cost $15, on SMTP2GO Starter and Mailgun Basic, as of October 2026. At 100,000 both list $75 (Mailgun Foundation), each with a dedicated IP included. SMTP2GO has phone and chat at $15, which Mailgun starts at $90. Free plans: 1,000 a month on SMTP2GO, 100 a day on Mailgun.

Here for cold email, not app mail?

SMTP2GO's terms rule out cold lists. Reachkit registers separate domains, sets up Google or Microsoft inboxes and warms them for you. Try it free for 30 days, no card needed.
