Postmark pricing

Postmark pricing starts at $15 a month for 10,000 emails on Basic, and every plan’s price rises with the volume you pick. Figures are from postmarkapp.com/pricing and the slider behind it, monthly, in USD, as of October 2026.

Emails a monthBasicProPlatform
10,000$15$16.50$18
50,000$55$60.50$66
125,000$115$126.50$138
300,000$245$269.50$294
700,000$455$500.50$546
1,500,000$775$852.50$930

Above 1.5 million a month, pricing goes through sales. Extra emails cost $1.15 to $1.80 per 1,000, cheapest on Platform and at higher tiers, and are added to the next invoice. Unused emails don’t roll over.

What the plans change: Basic allows 4 users and 5 sending domains, Pro 6 users and 10 domains plus inbound email processing, and Platform has no cap on users, servers or domains. The free Developer plan sends 100 emails a month with no overage allowed.

Paid extras: a dedicated IP at $50 a month each (Pro or Platform, and only from 300,000 emails a month), longer activity history from $5 a month, and DMARC monitoring from $14 a month per domain.

Billing terms: monthly only. On annual billing Postmark’s FAQ says “Not right now, but we’d like to!” Cards only, no PayPal or purchase orders, and the terms for accounts opened since December 2024 include no refund policy.

What a typical setup costs (my math, list prices): 10,000 app emails a month is $15 on Basic. At 30,000, the 10k plan plus overage comes to $51, a little under the $55 tier. At 100,000, the 125k tier ($115) beats 50k plus overage ($145). A 300,000-a-month sender on Pro with one dedicated IP pays $319.50.

What Postmark does

Postmark delivers email that your software sends through its REST API or SMTP. It has been sending email since 2010, and ActiveCampaign bought it from Wildbit in May 2022.

Streams: transactional mail and broadcasts such as newsletters run on separate message streams and separate IP ranges. Everyone sends from shared IP pools unless they qualify for a dedicated IP.

Getting started: you verify your domain with DKIM and Return-Path records. Postmark then reviews each new account by hand, and until it’s approved you can only send to your own verified domains.

Day to day: open and click tracking, webhooks, 45 days of message history on every plan and automatic suppression of hard bounces and spam complaints. On Pro and Platform, inbound processing posts incoming mail to your app.

AI: no AI writing features. For developers there’s an official MCP server (MCP is a standard way for AI assistants like Claude to use other apps), at version 2.0 with 24 tools since July 2026.

Postmark strengths and drawbacks

Strengths

  • Separate streams for app mail. Postmark says broadcasts never share IPs with transactional sends, and it vets every new sender (how streams work).
  • Quick to set up. G2 compare pages show 9.2 to 9.3 for ease of setup and 9.7 for ease of admin.
  • Cheap full feature set at low volume. Since August 2025, Platform starts at 10,000 emails for $18, with unlimited users and domains plus inbound. Postmark’s announcement says those features used to cost $138.
  • Published prices up to 1.5 million emails, with overage rates shown per plan.

Drawbacks

  • No room for cold email. Postmark’s terms say “All email lists contained and/or used with respect to the Service must be permission-based subscriptions” and ban purchased or rented lists. Complaints must stay under 0.1% and bounces under 10%.
  • Approval can stall a launch. Postmark’s help article says under 24 hours on weekdays, while some Trustpilot reviewers describe waiting about a week or a rejection with no reason given.
  • One account, one fate. Trustpilot reviewers describe whole accounts being blocked, which stops transactional email too; one says it followed a single B2B broadcast.
  • Small free tier. 100 emails a month, and nothing between that and the 10,000 plan.

What Postmark users say

As of October 2026 Postmark holds 4.6 out of 5 on G2, where it’s listed as ActiveCampaign Postmark, from about 30 reviews, and 4.7 on Capterra from 35. Trustpilot shows 2.0 from 47 reviews, with only 10 in the past year.

Praise centers on setup and delivery. Even a two-star review from May 2026 opens with “Great system. Great deliverability. Fair pricing.” before asking for better customer service. The complaints repeat: slow support (“support is slow and unresponsive”, October 2026), approval delays, and account shutdowns. A 2025 Capterra review titled “Postmark used to be amazing… RIP Postmark” reflects a wider feeling that service slipped after the ActiveCampaign sale.

Who Postmark is for

Postmark fits product teams that send sign-up confirmations, receipts and alerts, and care more about those landing fast than about the lowest price per email.

Look elsewhere if you need yearly billing, a large free tier, the lowest cost at millions of emails, or a way to email prospects who never opted in. In every setup I run, outreach goes out from separate lookalike domains and real mailboxes, which keeps a rough campaign away from the domain your receipts depend on (how that’s built).

Alternatives to Postmark

  • Amazon SES: pay-per-message sending inside AWS, $0.10 per 1,000 on à la carte, though new accounts start on Essentials at $0.16. See the Amazon SES profile.
  • Mailgun: an email API whose Basic plan is also $15 a month for 10,000 emails, with a free plan of 100 emails a day. See the Mailgun profile.
  • SendGrid: Twilio’s email API, from $19.95 a month for 50,000 emails, with a 60-day trial. See the SendGrid profile.
  • Reachkit (our product): it doesn’t send app email like receipts or alerts. For cold outreach (from $39 a month), it registers separate lookalike domains ($15 a year), creates Google or Microsoft inboxes on them ($5 a month each) and starts AI warmup.

Postmark: common questions

How much does Postmark cost?

Postmark costs $15 a month for 10,000 emails on Basic, $16.50 on Pro and $18 on Platform. Prices rise with volume, up to $775, $852.50 and $930 a month at 1.5 million emails, and higher volumes are quoted by sales. Extra emails cost $1.15 to $1.80 per 1,000. Billing is monthly only. Prices checked October 2026.

Is Postmark free?

Postmark has a free Developer plan that sends 100 emails a month, needs no credit card and never expires, but it allows no overage. The cheapest paid plan is Basic at $15 a month for 10,000 emails, as of October 2026.

How much does it cost to send 10,000 emails with Postmark?

Sending 10,000 emails a month with Postmark costs $15 on Basic, $16.50 on Pro, which adds inbound processing and more users and domains, or $18 on Platform, which removes the user and domain caps. Those are October 2026 list prices, billed monthly.

Is Postmark legit?

Yes. Postmark has been sending email since 2010 and is owned by ActiveCampaign, which bought it in 2022. It holds 4.6 on G2 and 4.7 on Capterra as of October 2026. Its Trustpilot score is 2.0 from 47 reviews, where complaints center on slow support, account approvals and shutdowns.

Can you use Postmark for cold email?

No. Postmark's terms require permission-based lists and ban lists bought or rented from third parties, and every new account is reviewed by hand before it can send to outside addresses. Cold outreach usually runs from separate domains and Google or Microsoft mailboxes in a tool built for it.

Postmark vs Mailgun: which is cheaper?

At 10,000 emails a month they match: Postmark Basic and Mailgun Basic both cost $15, as of October 2026. Mailgun's free plan is bigger, at 100 emails a day against Postmark's 100 a month.

Need to reach prospects, not just send receipts?

Keep receipts on your app's domain and run outreach from separate mailboxes. Describe a campaign in one sentence and try the 30-day free trial, no card needed.
