Resend pricing and review

Resend is an email API for developers: your app sends password resets, receipts and alerts through it, plus newsletters to opted-in contacts, priced by monthly volume.

Resend at a glance

Reachkit makes a cold email tool, so it competes with Resend only where people want to email prospects. Every price here was checked in October 2026 against Resend’s own pricing page, help docs and acceptable use policy.

Resend pricing

Resend pricing starts at $0 for 3,000 emails a month, and the first paid plan, Pro, is $20 for 50,000. These are list prices in USD from resend.com/pricing, billed monthly, as of October 2026.

PlanMonthlyEmails a monthExtra per 1,000
Free$03,000, max 100 a dayNo overage
Pro$20 or $3550,000 or 100,000$0.90
Scale$90 to $1,150100,000 to 2,500,000$0.90 down to $0.46
EnterpriseCustom1 million and upCustom

Scale’s six tiers are $90 (100,000), $160 (200,000), $350 (500,000), $650 (1 million), $825 (1.5 million) and $1,150 (2.5 million). Every To, CC and BCC address counts as one email, and so does every email you receive.

Overage is opt-in. Turn on pay-as-you-go and extra mail is billed in blocks of 1,000, so 51,415 emails on Pro 50k cost $21.80. Sending pauses at five times your monthly quota until the next cycle.

Marketing email is a separate plan, priced by contacts: free up to 1,000, then $40 for 5,000 up to $650 for 150,000. Broadcasts don’t use the transactional quota. An app on Pro with a 5,000-contact newsletter pays $20 plus $40, so $60 a month.

Extras: a dedicated IP at $30 a month (Scale, above 3,000 emails a day, warmup included), 100 more domains for $20 a month on Pro or Scale, and SSO at $150 a month on Scale. Annual billing is Enterprise-only, registered nonprofits can apply for 50% off, and the pricing page lists no seat fees.

What it really costs (my math): 10,000 emails a month needs Pro at $20. At 75,000, Pro 100k ($35) beats Pro 50k plus overage ($42.50). At 200,000, Pro 100k plus overage ($125) undercuts Scale 200k ($160); Scale buys Slack support, 1,000 domains and dedicated IP access, not more email.

What Resend does

Resend sends the email your software triggers, through a REST API or SMTP, with quickstart guides for Node.js, Python, PHP, Go and other languages. It grew out of React Email, Resend’s open-source library for writing email templates in React. The company launched its sending platform in 2023, joined Y Combinator that winter, and raised an $18M Series A in December 2024.

Setup: you verify your own domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records and start sending. Mail goes out from shared IPs unless you add a dedicated IP on Scale. Resend lists Amazon Web Services as a hosting and sending provider.

Beyond sending: broadcasts to contact lists, inbound email posted to your app by webhook (since November 2025), event-triggered automations and an AI email editor (both April 2026), and open and click tracking per domain. An “Inboxes” product for AI agents is on every plan per the pricing page, and in private beta per the API docs.

For builders: an official MCP server, local or hosted. MCP is a standard way for AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT to use other apps.

Resend strengths and drawbacks

Strengths

  • Fast to wire up. Praise for the API runs through Product Hunt reviews, such as “the straight forward syntax to sending an email” (reviews).
  • A free tier you can launch on. 3,000 emails a month with 3 domains and 30 days of logs, against Postmark’s 100 emails a month.
  • Prices in the open. Self-serve tiers to 2.5 million emails, overage rates per tier and no seat fees (pricing).
  • Built for AI agents too. A hosted MCP server since July 2026 and an inbox product built for AI agents.

Drawbacks

  • Tight account rules. The acceptable use policy requires bounces under 4% and complaints under 0.08%, and says an account above them “may be shut down without warning”. Resend’s quotas doc says the same breach “may result in a temporary pause in sending”.
  • One rate limit for everyone. 10 API requests a second on every plan, so upgrading doesn’t raise it; you can ask support for more.
  • Light deliverability help. Product Hunt and G2 reviewers ask for more guidance and insight into bounced or delayed mail; one wrote that guidance “basically stops at ‘warm up your domain’”. Pro and up list “deliverability expertise”.

What Resend users say

Resend’s ratings split sharply by site. As of October 2026 it holds 4.9 out of 5 on Product Hunt from 259 reviews, 219 of them from founders and makers, and 4.8 on G2 from about 10. I found no Capterra listing.

Trustpilot shows 2.4 from 23 reviews, 70% of them one star, on a profile Resend hasn’t claimed. Most of the negative ones describe suspended accounts, often after paying. One from October 2026 says Resend “refused to provide any specific reason, saying that the details of their compliance review are confidential.” Praise centers on setup, docs and the API.

Who Resend is for

Resend fits developers sending app email, especially on JavaScript stacks where React Email templates feel native, and small products that can live inside 3,000 free emails for months.

Look elsewhere if you need annual billing below Enterprise or a way to send to people who never opted in. Resend’s policy bans “cold outreach, purchased lists, or scraped contact data”. If one account sent both, a shutdown over a prospect list would stop your app’s mail too. Outreach belongs on its own domains and mailboxes (how I set that up).

Alternatives to Resend

  • Postmark: app email from $15 a month for 10,000 emails, with broadcasts on separate streams. See the Postmark profile and SendGrid vs Postmark.
  • SendGrid: Twilio’s email API, from $19.95 a month for 50,000 emails after a 60-day trial. See the SendGrid profile.
  • Mailgun: an API with a free plan of 100 emails a day and Basic at $15 for 10,000. See the Mailgun profile and Mailgun vs SendGrid.
  • Amazon SES: sending inside AWS at $0.10 per 1,000 emails pay-as-you-go, or $0.16 on the Essentials plan new accounts start on. See the Amazon SES profile.
  • Reachkit (our product): not for app email. If you came to Resend to reach prospects, Reachkit registers lookalike domains ($15 a year), sets up Google or Microsoft inboxes on them ($5 a month each), warms them with AI and sends your sequences, from $39 a month.

Resend: common questions

How much does Resend charge per email?

Resend charges by monthly plan rather than per email. Pro is $20 for 50,000 emails, about $0.40 per 1,000, and Scale runs from $90 for 100,000 to $1,150 for 2.5 million. Extra emails cost $0.90 per 1,000 on Pro, falling to $0.46 on the largest Scale tier, if pay-as-you-go is on. Prices checked October 2026.

Is Resend email service free?

Resend has a free plan with no end date: 3,000 emails a month, capped at 100 a day, with 3 domains and 30 days of logs. Marketing email is free up to 1,000 contacts. There's no free trial of the paid plans, and the free plan allows no overage, as of October 2026.

Is Resend legit?

Yes. Resend is a Y Combinator company that raised an $18M Series A in December 2024 and is SOC 2 Type II compliant. It rates 4.9 on Product Hunt and 4.8 on G2 from about 10 reviews, while Trustpilot shows 2.4 from 23, mostly complaints about suspended accounts, as of October 2026.

Can you use Resend for cold email?

No. Resend's acceptable use policy bans unsolicited messages, naming cold outreach, purchased lists and scraped contacts, and requires recipients who opted in. Cold outreach usually runs from separate domains and Google or Microsoft mailboxes in a tool built for it, such as Reachkit, which is our product.

Resend vs Postmark: which is cheaper?

It depends on volume. At 10,000 emails a month Postmark Basic costs $15 against Resend Pro's $20, but Resend's $20 covers up to 50,000, where Postmark's 50,000 tier costs $55 on Basic. Resend bills monthly below Enterprise, and Postmark bills monthly only. Prices checked October 2026.

Looking to email prospects, not users?

Resend's policy rules out cold outreach. Reachkit registers separate domains, sets up and warms Google or Microsoft inboxes for you, and sends your campaigns. Try it free for 30 days, no card.
