Muck Rack pricing and review
Muck Rack is PR software for finding journalists, pitching them from your own inbox and tracking the coverage that follows, sold on custom annual contracts.
Muck Rack at a glance
Reachkit, which publishes this page, makes cold email software for reaching buyers, not PR software, so it overlaps with Muck Rack only where both send personal emails from your own inbox. Muck Rack lists no prices; every figure below was checked on October 15, 2026 against Muck Rack’s own pages, with third-party estimates named and dated.

Muck Rack pricing
Muck Rack pricing is quote-only: every plan on muckrack.com/pricing says “Contact us”, and the price depends on users and modules. Muck Rack’s own media monitoring guide, last updated December 15, 2025, says it “ranges from $5,000 to $53,000 annually, with most teams paying around $15,000 per year”.
| Plan | Muck Rack says it’s for | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | Individuals | Database search, media lists, pitching with PressPal.ai, alerts, limited exports |
| Standard | Most PR teams | Podcast monitoring, AI journalist suggestions, full exports, a named success manager |
| Premier | Enterprises and advanced teams | Curation Engine, custom dashboards, AI sentiment; API available as an add-on |
Brands and agencies each get these tiers, with fewer Premier features for agencies. Add-ons, none priced publicly: print and broadcast monitoring, social listening, press release distribution, the API and Media Intelligence. Generative Pulse is listed both as a Premier feature and as an add-on. Print from LexisNexis has needed an add-on on every package since March 31, 2025, per the help center.
Third-party figures: Vendr puts the median buyer at $13,000 a year (February 2026). Rephonic collects unverified Reddit reports of about $5,000 a year for one seat (August 2026).
Contract terms (terms): billed yearly in advance and renewed automatically; you cancel by emailing your success manager, with no refunds for partial years.
What a typical setup costs: a one to three person in-house team on Starter or Standard should expect roughly $5,000 to $15,000 a year (about $420 to $1,250 a month), before add-ons. That’s our estimate from the three sources above.
What Muck Rack does
Muck Rack runs the earned media workflow in one app: search journalists and outlets, build media lists, pitch, monitor what gets published, and report on it. Over 100 people review the listings, and Muck Rack aims to check each one yearly (media database).
You connect Gmail or Outlook, so pitches go out from your own address and are logged on the journalist’s profile, with opens, clicks and replies tracked. Each account has a daily sending limit that also counts mail sent outside Muck Rack. There’s no warmup and no new inboxes: it’s built for pitching reporters, not cold email at volume.
Monitoring covers articles on every plan, podcasts from Standard up, and print, broadcast and social as add-ons. Muck Rack has also announced an MCP connection (a standard way for AI assistants to use other apps) for coverage analysis, in Q3 2026.
Muck Rack strengths and drawbacks
Strengths
- Current media contacts. “Ease of use and up-to-date media contacts” is the main praise in G2’s review summary (G2).
- Find, pitch, monitor and report in one place. Mostly built in-house, plus the Keyhole (2024) and Ruepoint (2025) acquisitions.
- Fast AI releases for PR. Generative Pulse (July 2025), the Media List Agent (February 2026), Curation Engine (April 2026) and Newsjacking Opportunities (September 2026).
- Hands-on support. A named success manager from Standard up, and support quality scores 9.2 out of 10 on G2’s comparison pages, per search results.
Drawbacks
- No public prices. Getting a number takes a demo. A Reddit user pricing Muck Rack and Meltwater in 2021 found it “quite hard to get a straight answer”, and Muck Rack’s own pricing FAQ says solo practitioners “often find alternatives better suited to sporadic usage patterns”.
- Yearly lock-in. Prepaid, auto-renewing annual terms with no partial refunds; cancelling a multi-year plan early leaves the full contract due.
- Features sit on Premier. Curation Engine and Newsjacking Opportunities are on the brand Premier plan only, and the API is a paid add-on on top of Premier (API page).
- Some profile errors. Capterra reviewers mention wrong contact details, and one publisher says commenters get listed as authors.
What Muck Rack users say
Muck Rack scores 4.5 out of 5 on G2, from 419 or 433 reviews depending on the G2 page, as of October 2026. Capterra shows 4.2 from 25 reviews and TrustRadius 8.2 out of 10 from 35. All three come from search results; the sites block direct reads. Trustpilot has no reviews yet, and the top Google result for “muck rack review” is Glassdoor’s employer page.
The praise is about the contact data and how easy the app is to learn. The main complaint is cost: G2’s review summary says some users find it high, especially for smaller teams.
Who Muck Rack is for
Muck Rack fits in-house comms teams and PR agencies that pitch journalists regularly and want monitoring and coverage reports in the same tool.
Look elsewhere if you pitch a few times a year, need month-to-month billing, or want to email buyers rather than reporters. For an agency’s own new-business outreach, I’d use separate domains with warmed inboxes, which Muck Rack doesn’t set up, so cold email stays off the address reporters know.
Alternatives to Muck Rack
Cision, Meltwater and Prowly are the PR platforms people price next to Muck Rack; we haven’t checked their prices. For smaller or different jobs:
- Hunter: finds a reporter’s work email from their name and the outlet’s domain, with a free plan of 50 credits a month and Starter at $49 a month. See the Hunter profile.
- Mailmeteor: Gmail and Google Sheets mail merge for personal pitches, free for 50 emails a day, paid from $5.99 per user a month. See the Mailmeteor profile.
- Reachkit (our product): for emailing buyers, such as an agency’s new-business campaigns. Its Lead Finder (500M+ people) adds verified leads at 1 credit each, and it registers separate domains ($15 a year) and sets up warmed inboxes ($5 a month), from $39 a month per workspace. It has no journalist database or media monitoring.
Muck Rack: common questions
How much does a Muck Rack subscription cost?
Muck Rack doesn't publish prices. Its own guide, last updated December 2025, puts the cost at $5,000 to $53,000 a year, with most teams around $15,000. Vendr reported a median of $13,000 a year in February 2026. Contracts are billed yearly in advance, so there's no monthly price. Checked October 2026.
Is Muck Rack free?
Only for journalists, who never pay for their profiles. PR teams need a paid subscription with custom pricing, and the pricing page offers a demo rather than a free trial. Muck Rack's PressPal.ai tool can be used once without an account to draft one press release or pitch.
Is Muck Rack a legit company?
Yes. Muck Rack was founded in 2009 by Greg Galant and Lee Semel and said in October 2025 that nearly 6,000 companies use it. It holds 4.5 out of 5 on G2 as of October 2026.
Who owns Muck Rack?
Its founders, per the last public statement. When Susquehanna Growth Equity invested $180 million in 2022, Muck Rack's first institutional investment, the company said it would stay founder-controlled and majority founder-owned. Co-founder Greg Galant is CEO.
Does Muck Rack use AI?
Yes. PressPal.ai drafts press releases and pitches on every plan. Newer AI tools include the Media List Agent beta, which suggests up to 50 journalists, AI Visibility Badges on Standard and Premier, and Generative Pulse, which tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude mention your brand. Curation Engine and Newsjacking Opportunities are brand Premier features.
Can I use Muck Rack for cold email to sales prospects?
It isn't built for that. Muck Rack sends pitches to journalists from your connected Gmail or Outlook address, with no warmup and no new inboxes. Reachkit, a cold email tool, finds verified leads and sets up and warms inboxes on separate domains, from $39 a month.
Emailing buyers, not reporters?
Reachkit finds verified leads, registers separate domains and sets up and warms the inboxes, so new-business emails stay off the address reporters know. Try it free for 30 days, no card.
