Crunchbase pricing and review
Crunchbase is a research database of mostly private companies, their funding rounds and investors, with AI predictions and a self-serve Pro plan.

Crunchbase pricing
Crunchbase pricing starts at $99 a month per Pro seat on monthly billing, cancel any time (Buy Crunchbase Pro). USD, as of October 2026.
| Plan | Price | Main limits |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Up to 5 results per search, no exports |
| Pro, monthly | $99 a month per seat | Up to 1,000 results per search, 2,000 export rows a month |
| Pro, annual | $588 for the first year, new users only | Same as Pro monthly |
| Business | From $199 a month billed annually, via sales | 5,000 export rows a month, Salesforce, HubSpot and Zapier, SSO |
| API | Custom quote | 200 calls a minute |
The annual price is a first-year offer. Crunchbase calls $588 (about $49 a month) 38% off for new users, and its help center doesn’t state the rate after that. Crunchbase’s checkout page, as indexed by search engines, and an August 2026 pricing report both show $79 a month billed annually.
Business. The $199 figure comes from a search snippet of Crunchbase’s pricing page and two third-party guides; Crunchbase doesn’t say whether it’s per seat. Business includes 10 contacts a month, with packages of 100 for $29, 250 for $59 or 500 for $99 a month (help center, June 2025). Vendr’s purchase data (February 2026) puts the median buyer at $20,000 a year.
What a typical setup costs: one researcher pays $588 in year one, then $948 a year at the $79 rate, against $1,188 on monthly billing. Three people who want CRM sync need Business: about $7,164 a year if $199 is per seat, before contacts.
What Crunchbase does
Crunchbase is a database for researching companies, mostly private ones: funding rounds, investors, acquisitions, firmographics and people. You search with filters or in plain language, save lists, get alerts, track companies on a board and export to CSV. Scout, its AI agent, summarizes companies and search results.
Since a February 2025 relaunch, Crunchbase calls itself a predictions engine. Its models forecast funding, growth, acquisitions, IPOs and companies staying private, and Crunchbase says they anticipated 84% of real-world funding events. Data comes from contributors, public sources and partners. The Pro page counts 4M+ private companies; a June 2026 update says more than 5 million.
Contacts are a smaller part: about 18 million at 400,000 organizations, weighted toward US companies (help center, April 2025). Pro doesn’t send email. Builders get a custom-priced API and an official MCP server (a standard way for AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT to use other apps), live since July 2026.
Crunchbase strengths and drawbacks
Strengths
- Startup and funding data. G2’s review summary says users “value the data accuracy of Crunchbase, appreciating its up-to-date information” (G2).
- No sales call to start. A free account, a 7-day Pro trial, and Pro at $99 a month with no contract.
- Timing signals. Predictions, heat scores and alerts on saved lists flag companies that may raise, grow or sell.
- Open to AI tools. The MCP server signs in with OAuth and works with Claude, ChatGPT and Perplexity (MCP docs).
Drawbacks
- Strict billing terms. Plans renew automatically. Refunds are possible only within 7 days of a payment, and not “if you exported any data from Crunchbase Pro or Crunchbase Business, including during a trial” (cancellation policy).
- Export caps. 2,000 rows a month on Pro, 5,000 on Business.
- Gaps in mid-market and non-US data. G2’s summary notes outdated information “particularly affecting mid-market and non-US company profiles”, and TrustRadius reviewers score contact information about 3 to 4 out of 10.
- Plan pages disagree. October 2026 help articles put predictions, Scout and “Base Access” to MCP on Pro. The Pro vs Business page keeps predictions for Business and calls Scout limited on Pro, and the MCP docs sell team seats separately, on Business.
What Crunchbase users say
Crunchbase rates well on G2 and Capterra, middling on TrustRadius and badly on Trustpilot. As of October 2026 it holds 4.4 out of 5 on G2 from about 410 reviews and 4.2 on Capterra from 18, most written by 2023. TrustRadius shows 6.3 out of 10 from 73 ratings. Trustpilot shows about 1.5 from around 50 reviews on an unclaimed profile, 88% of them one-star.
Research users praise the startup and funding data. Trustpilot reviewers write most often about money: charges after a trial, unexpected renewals and refused refunds, plus export limits (“2000 exports/mo is a joke!”). A few low scores come from companies unhappy with their own profile.
Who Crunchbase is for
Crunchbase fits investors, analysts, founders sizing up a market, and sales teams that sell to startups and want to know who just raised. Pro covers one researcher; CRM sync or more exports need Business.
Look elsewhere if you need verified emails at volume: the contact data reaches far fewer companies than the company data, and Pro exports stop at 2,000 rows a month. For cold email I’d use Crunchbase to choose the accounts, then find and verify the people with a tool built for that.
Alternatives to Crunchbase
- ZoomInfo: company and contact data with intent signals, quote-only; Vendr puts the median buyer at $33,500 a year. See the ZoomInfo profile.
- Apollo: a contact database with sequences built in, a free plan with 75 credits a month, and seats from $49 a month billed yearly. See the Apollo profile.
- Clay: pulls many data providers into one table and researches each row with AI; free plan, Launch at $185 a month. See the Clay profile.
- LinkedIn Sales Navigator: people search across LinkedIn with job-change alerts, from $119.99 a month. See the Sales Navigator profile.
- Reachkit (our product): once Crunchbase has shown you which companies to target, Reachkit’s Lead Finder searches 500M+ people by company, title and seniority, verifies each email before it joins a campaign, and charges 1 credit per verified lead. Growth is $39 a month per workspace with 1,000 credits, and the same plan writes and sends the campaign. It has no funding or investor data. See Reachkit vs Apollo.
Crunchbase: common questions
How much is a Crunchbase subscription?
Crunchbase Pro costs $99 a month, or $588 for the first year on annual billing, a 38% discount for new users. Crunchbase's checkout page and a third-party report show $79 a month billed annually after that. Business starts at $199 a month billed annually, through sales, and the API is custom-priced. Checked October 2026.
Is Crunchbase free or paid?
Both. A free Crunchbase account shows up to 5 results per search, with no exports and limited AI features. Pro is paid and starts with a 7-day free trial that becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel. Exports aren't available during the trial.
Is Crunchbase legit?
Yes. Crunchbase is a San Francisco company that began in 2007 as a database of companies covered by TechCrunch, and it says it has more than 80 million users. It rates 4.4 on G2 as of October 2026. Its low Trustpilot score comes largely from renewal and refund complaints, so read the cancellation policy first.
Who is Crunchbase owned by?
Crunchbase is independent and venture-backed. Per Wikipedia, it started at TechCrunch, later owned by AOL, spun out in 2015, and has raised from Emergence Capital, Mayfield and OMERS Ventures. Jager McConnell is the CEO.
Can you get email addresses from Crunchbase?
Some. Crunchbase's help center lists about 18 million contacts at 400,000 organizations, weighted toward US companies. Business includes 10 contacts a month, with packages from $29 for 100. For cold email at volume, Apollo's database or Reachkit's Lead Finder covers far more people. Verify any address before sending.
Is there a free alternative to Crunchbase?
For funding data, start with Crunchbase's own free account, at 5 results per search. For contact data, Apollo has a free plan with 75 credits a month, Lusha gives 40 free credits a month, and ZoomInfo Lite gives 10.
